Demimateria are the items needed to get the new master books for the specific crafting professions. Through a bit of scienceing, I managed to figured out the requirements for demimateria and how to get the specific types. Demimateria from now on will be called DM, desynth will be called DS.
Desynth
DM is received through desynthing, a new mechanic that was added in patch 2.3. DSing is raised through the desynthesizing of any armor/weapon/accessory currently in the game, but there ARE rules to what you can and can desynth.
1. You cannot desynth above your level.
2. As a rule, you cannot desynth blue items besides primal weapons.
DSing is separated into tiers that you must pass in order raise it. You are unable to DS, say, a lvl 40 cloth item with a DS weaver level of 2. You need to grow the level first before you are able to DS the item. DS is percentage based, with the higher the skill the higher the percentage the DS will happen. You will know you need to move up a tier of item when you start getting .20 skill points/90% success rate on you DS, plus or minus a few percent.
Demimateria
Now on to DM and how it pertains to desynthing. You can start to receive DM at any point after you start to desynth. However, DM each have their own tier and type:
Fieldcraft DM: Received through the desynthing of any fieldcraft armor/tool/accessory.
Battlecraft DM: Received through the desynthing of any battle gear specific armor/weapon/accessory.
As a rule, it does not matter if the armor you desynth is gatherer or crafter, or caster or melee. It is merely seperated into those two types. As long as the gear is worn by a crafting/gathering class, you will get fieldcraft materia. The same applies for battlecraft. That being said, the DM itself is seperated into tiers with three being the highest:
Battlecraft/Fieldcraft Demimateria I: You will start to receive this materia around 35 desynth skill, weaver for example. In order to get this DM, you have to desynth armor/weapons starting at lvl 30 (85% or higher success to DS with a skill of 35 or higher). It IS chance based, so you are not going to receive a materia every single desynth. Example being out of 10 desynths of a level 31 item (Velveteen dress gloves), I received 3 battlecraft DM.
That being said, I am unsure of when you will start getting Tier 2 and then tier 3 of the DM. Conjecture would be Tier 1 starts at 35, with Tier 2 around 50-60 ending with Tier 3 at 90-100. This would be the simplest way, but until someone takes it up that high it will remain unknown. It will be the basis I work off of until proven otherwise, however.
DO remember that you only need 5 Battlecraft and 5 Fieldcraft Demimateria to unlock the new master books for the crafter classes.
Tips and Tricks!
There are a few sneaky/cheap ways to go about leveling desynth skill, as well as a shortcut crafter class. Here are some tips I've found and used:
1. Go weaver all the way! - Weaver encompasses both battle and gathering gear, by a far wider margin than any other class. Taking weaver straight to 100 would be the best IF you are only after demimateria. If you are after the ingredients themselves or a specific desynth item then not so much. Do remember you only have 300 skill levels to divide between all your crafters!
2. Use the Merchant and Mender npcs! - For those of you who do not have a crafter class leveled, these npcs are your friends. By and large they sell both field and battle gear for less than AH, and they have an unlimited supply of said items. Granted you might find SOME cheaper items on the MB (level 1-20 items) but after that point they cost stupid amounts of gil. Case in point, at level 30 desynth skill I went to Costa del Sol and bought level 28 weaver field/battle gear for slightly over 1k a pop. And they NEVER run out, unlike the AH.
That's all I have for now! As I discover and go more into depth with the desynth and demimateria system I will add more onto this, but as it stands this will start you off on your way to get said skill/items.
